Philosophy
Sammie W. King contemporary was founded in 2008 to provide an exclusive source of premium quality, world-class post-war and contemporary art. The firm offers a consistent and reliable blue-chip alternative to galleries, auction houses and art fairs in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Milan and Hong Kong. The work is available (current inventory or commission) to serious collectors, private clients, patrons, entrepreneurs, investors, art enthusiasts; any and all that love and appreciate amazing, beautiful, virtually priceless wall décor.
Partners include the luxury residential and commercial interior design, construction and property management industries; the public arts sector; architectural planning and engineering firms and government agencies. Elite home builder interior designers have installed the artwork in multi-million-dollar custom estates. Corporate and industrial leaders, government administrators, property managers, public art curators and business owners have installed the work in Class A+ hotels, financial institutions, restaurants, hospitals, clinics, executive suites, offices, conference centers and public spaces. Many of the creations are now cornerstones of major public, private, corporate and university collections.
The practice is freeform abstract, ultra-contemporary / modern. Barriers of attempting to satisfy infinite artistic tastes are neutralized. There are no compromises based upon the boundaries of media, color, technique or style. And there are no limitations based upon size, scope, scale or weight. The work and the results will always evolve, expand and advance. Much of the time — forcefully, dramatically and unpredictably!
The commitment to excellence and edgy, ground-breaking, risk-taking imagery found in the masters of 1940s through 1970s abstract expressionism are truly reflected, fully represented and completely realized in this practice. Refined and highly stylized imagery creation is achieved by using the palette knife and other instruments to apply very diverse types of media and texture to various surfaces. Sophisticated blending and mixing effects; along with splatter, splash, drip, flow, and pour techniques; coupled with dramatic and unbridled movement of media are featured in almost all of the paintings! A majority of the pieces are very substantial because of the heavy amount of media and texture applied.
The processes that are employed are hands-on — very focused; very methodical. The processes are also tedious, cumbersome and unfortunately … terribly slow. Only a few pieces are produced each year. The small production numbers do allow more time for full and complete implementation of my uncompromising standards. Extreme attention to detail, painstaking quality assurance, immeasurable creativity, vision and cutting-edge alchemy are just a few of those standards.
Each piece is spontaneously conceived; then, single-handedly created, crafted and completed — one-at-a-time. Multiple canvases are never worked simultaneously. In-house production or finishing teams are not utilized. No aides, assistants, helpers or anyone else ever apply color, highlights, texture or any other media to any of my paintings. Automated, computerized or commercial production equipment are not required, as there are no assembly or production lines. In addition, there are never any four-color or giclée prints, posters, reproductions, duplicates, copies or replicas. Reference the Installations pages to review the real-world results of these processes.
Also, no two pieces are ever alike. Each painting truly is — "an original, one-of-a-kind creation!" Each painting is “distinctly different” from the one before, as well as the one after. Each painting has its own individual story; its own individual identity; its own individual character; even, its own individual personality! And, each painting has its own individual impact on the viewer. The Gallery page imagery will bear this out.
Photographs however, will never do justice in fully reflecting the true quality and value of the work — regardless of sharpness, clarity or resolution.
The paintings must be experienced in-person to be fully evaluated, as well as truly appreciated. Dramatic, powerful colors; heavy, unusual texture; astounding patinae and stunning glosses and glazes, will — "take your breath away!"
For decades, the post-war and contemporary market, overall, has had consistent, dramatic; practically unlimited growth and expansion, which continues today. But who you purchase from is as critical as who you purchase! If you were to acquire any of the works in this collection through any blue-chip gallery, auction house or art fair in New York, London, Paris, Milan or Hong Kong, you’d pay many tens of thousands more per painting! Purchasing directly from myself eliminates the inflated commissions, fees, price guarantees, buyer’s overhead premiums, artist’s resale right payments, irrevocable bids, value added taxes (VAT), booth rental charges and other excessive markups that elite galleries, auction houses and art fairs worldwide are notorious for.
Because you’re purchasing directly from the artist, authenticity is always guaranteed. All paintings have my bold, distinctive, hand-painted signature in the lower corners. Tight control of the collection has always been paramount. I’ve declined numerous gallery representation proposals and avoided extended museum commitments to reduce the risk of over exposure, redundancy and exploitation.
These works are strategically displayed in the most prestigious residential estates; universities and corporations; private and public sector locales; governmental and municipal facilities. Prudently controlled production, limited exposure and market exclusivity have led to value stability and value accrual. Because of very structured and strict management, every painting in this collection is in excellent condition and at the pinnacle of value!
And when it’s time to sell, collectors that purchase, then hold, original, one-of-kind, post-war and contemporary art ALWAYS receive phenomenal returns at auction or private resale! If you collect art for its investment, as well as its aesthetic value, pieces can be provided "or created" that will not only enhance the overall visibility and prestige of your collection, but will also add value to your asset portfolio.
So in the future, if you or your heirs decide to liquidate any piece(s) that you might acquire, the potential for astronomical returns can only be imagined! However, if your goal is simply stellar residential or commercial interior design; that special creation for your next private or public exhibition; or a family or business heirloom to be treasured and passed down through generations, you will find my Consultation services essential to your success.
These creations will greatly enhance the quality, credibility, integrity, visibility, importance and value of any esteemed collection of post-war and contemporary art — anywhere in the world! Of course, no commodity acquisition or investment can guarantee an immediate financial gain or a dramatic increase in value over time. Markets can fluctuate causing variation in results. But historically, premium-quality, original, one-of-a-kind, authentic artwork of this caliber NEVER goes down in value. It ALWAYS goes up!
The post-war and contemporary market has demonstrated consistently astounding value appreciation (surpassing gold, silver and real estate) while stocks, bonds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), cryptocurrency, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and other investments have consistently faltered.
The work adorns numerous luxury estates, state-of-the-art medical centers and clinics; Class A+ office buildings and financial centers. Be sure to stop by the Legacy page to review some of the artwork that has been previously acquired. You might also peruse the Commissions page to determine if a one-of-a-kind, original painting “created specifically for you” might be a worthy investment. You will probably discover that this process is much easier than you might have expected.
And remember, "Once you acquire any of the pieces in my current inventory or commission a brand new, one-of-a-kind creation; you will have the only version of that painting that will ever exist! "
I've been professionally honing my craft since 1990. The Resume page will give you a brief snapshot of my background, experience and commitment.
If you would like extensive details on my history and origins, take a look at the recently renamed Media page. It’s now Media / Sales. Retained are the Virtual Exhibition and the four-page, cover feature article by my community magazine, "Life @ The Dominion." The story chronicles where and how this journey got started; the ups-and-downs along the way; and the focus and hard work it took to get where I am today. The recently added Sales Section contains new “promotional, marketing, acquisition, price point estimate and client service" information.
Finally, the Contact page makes getting additional information easy. Just email, text or call. I look forward to hearing from you and addressing any questions or comments that you might have. And I would be pleased to contribute to your uncompromising collection of abstract, modern, post-war and contemporary art.
